Synopsis

The Sacrifice Zone is a gripping short documentary that follows the Aguirre family of Kern County, California—four generations of Chicano activists whose legacy began with the United Farm Workers and Cesar Chavez. Today, they face a new threat: Big Oil’s latest greenwashing scheme known as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). From a deeply human and cultural perspective, the film documents their fight for community health and justice in a region treated as expendable.

But this is more than a local battle. If the Aguirre family fails, Carbon Capture and Storage could be falsely validated and exported across the country—at taxpayer expense—while enriching polluters and endangering lives nationwide.
